What are my whitening options?

Smiles By Sands offers both in-office and at-home procedures for patients with different tooth whitening needs. During your free personal teeth whitening consultation, Dr. Sands will discuss the advantages of both options and help you choose the one that’s right for you. You can also choose your level of whitening based on a variety of bleaching intensities. If you want a quick-fix, the in-office laser bleaching option can help you achieve a brighter smile in just one visit. If you prefer gradual whitening without time in the dental chair, Dr. Sands will oversee your progress with our take-home kit. Both methods offer equally effective whitening — it just depends on your preference.

Is tooth whitening safe?

Tooth whitening is a very safe procedure, and we use products approved by the American Dental Association and Food and Drug Administration. Ongoing research continues to confirm the safety of at-home and in-office whitening procedures. The side effects are minor and may include temporary hot/cold sensitivity. During your first whitening visit, your doctor will describe the whitening solutions we use, explain the purpose of various ingredients and their objectives, and answer all your questions about smile brightening.

What can I expect during treatment?

When you come in for your consultation, your doctor will begin by examining your teeth and gums. After a thorough dental heath evaluation, Dr. Sands will recommend the procedure best suited to your unique smile whitening needs.  If there are any health issues, such as cavities or gum problems, the doctor may recommend taking care of these first.

If you choose the in-office teeth whitening treatment, you can expect to spend only a little over an hour in the dental chair. After a simple, painless laser whitening process, you’ll walk away with dramatically whiter teeth.

If you prefer the take-home method, Dr. Sands will take molds of your teeth in order to create your custom bleaching trays. Then, you’ll receive special instructions on wearing your whitening trays at home. After both types of procedures, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your results with the doctor.
