For badly damaged teeth, porcelain crowns can be a very effective treatment option. Porcelain crowns are coverings placed on teeth to restore strength and minimize (or eliminate) discomfort. Porcelain crowns are often used to anchor dental bridges, also. All-porcelain crowns create a very natural-looking appearance and are usually used on the front teeth only. Since the tooth-colored ceramic is translucent, just like the enamel on your natural teeth, porcelain crowns can be matched to the shade of the rest of your teeth. Because porcelain crowns are not as durable as metal crowns, they are not used on the back teeth, due to the pressure from biting and chewing.
